Because the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) has a fjord-like structure, beaches are generally narrow pebble strips or concrete piers (pontoons). However, the water is generally very calm, offering swimming opportunities with stunning views of the bay.

Dobrota Beach: The closest and most accessible swimming area to Kotor Old Town. Dobrota is a long stretch of beach stretching north from Kotor's center. The seaside here consists primarily of concrete platforms in front of cafes and restaurants. These platforms are ideal for sunbathing and direct access to the water via a ladder. They offer calmer, more sheltered waters, especially for families with children.

Perast: Famous for its historic architecture, Perast is a great option for those looking to combine swimming with scenic views. You can enter the water from the piers in Perast and swim towards the island of Our Lady of the Rocks. Perast is a photo-filled swimming spot, especially popular with day trippers.

Orahovac Beach: Located approximately 10 km north of Kotor, Orahovac offers a more traditional beach experience within the bay. Known for its pebbled surface, this beach offers organized umbrella and sunbed services. Considered to have some of the clearest water in the bay, it's a popular spot during the summer months.

Muo and Prcanj: Located just across from Kotor (on the southern shore of the bay), these small towns have a more local atmosphere. Instead of large, organized beaches, there are small piers and rocky areas used by locals. Those looking for a quiet, peaceful swimming experience away from the crowds should consider these places.

An Important Note: Options Outside the Gulf

While the Bay of Kotor's waters are seawater, those seeking the feeling of the completely open Adriatic Sea may need to venture beyond the Kotor Municipality. Beaches like Jaz Beach, Trsteno, or Ploče on the Budva Riviera are about a 30-40-minute drive away for a wavy, open-water experience.
