Foça Beach Guide: The Tranquil Harbor of the Aegean
Foça, Izmir's unique architecture and peaceful atmosphere make it a must-see destination during the summer months. Here are some of the most beautiful beaches and coves you can explore around Eski Foça and Yeni Foça.
Brief Notes About Foça
Foça is generally divided into two main areas: Eski Foça (the center) and Yeni Foça. Eski Foça is more historic and home to boutique coves, while Yeni Foça is known for its longer beaches and greater concentration of resorts.
1. Big Beach (Yeni Foça)
This is Yeni Foça's most popular beach and has the longest coastline. The beach is generally fine sand and shallow, making it especially safe for families with children. Numerous private facilities and cafes offering sun loungers and umbrella rentals are located nearby. Its central location makes it easily accessible.
2. Eski Foça Public Beach
Located just off the old Foça market, this beach is ideal for those who don't want to stray too far from the city center. Although it's spread out over a small area, the sea is clean and easily accessible. It's especially popular with those looking for a quick afternoon break.
3. Sazlıca Beach and Bay
Located approximately 6-7 km from Eski Foça, Sazlıca is the perfect destination for those seeking a more natural and tranquil experience. This bay is surrounded by pine trees and greenery. Much of the beach has a rocky bottom, so wearing water shoes is essential for your comfort. Camping and day trips are also available.
4. Dynasty Beach Surroundings
This area, which you'll encounter as you head out of Eski Foça, is relatively uncrowded and renowned for its crystal clear water. Here, you can find both privately owned facilities and a little corner of your own. The ground is mostly pebbles, and the seawater is quite cool by Aegean standards.
Water Shoe Warning!
Many of Foça's natural coves and beaches (especially those around Eski Foça) have rocky or pebbly bottoms. Therefore, it's recommended that you bring sea shoes to protect your feet and move comfortably in the sea.
