Dubrovnik Beach Guide
Enjoy Crystal Clear Waters in the Pearl of Croatia
While Dubrovnik is famous for its historic city walls and Gothic and Renaissance architecture, its location on the Adriatic coast also makes it home to stunning beaches. While these beaches, which offer a convenient escape from the city center's bustle, are often pebbled or rocky, the clarity of the water and views of the Old Town are unparalleled. Whether you're looking for a luxurious beach club experience or a tranquil retreat in an isolated cove, Dubrovnik's surroundings offer a beachfront destination to suit every taste.
The Best Spots to Sunbathe
Banje Beach: Dubrovnik's most famous and photogenic beach. Located right next to the Old City walls, the views are unrivaled. During the day, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas on the pebble beach, and in the evening, you can enjoy the vibrant beach club. Due to its location, it can be quite crowded during the summer months.
Lapad Bay Beaches: The Lapad Peninsula is ideal for those seeking quieter, family-friendly beaches. Located here, Sunset Beach Lapad offers a longer coastline and partially sandy areas. The surrounding walking paths, cafes, and restaurants make Lapad a great place to spend the day.
Copacabana Beach: Located in the Babin Kuk district, this spacious beach is known for its modern facilities and water sports. Canoes, pedal boats, and even floating water parks are available. It's mostly pebbled and accessible.
St. Jakov Beach: About a 20-30-minute walk from the city center or a short bus ride away, St. Jakov offers a more isolated experience. Reaching the beach requires descending approximately 160 steps, but the effort is rewarded with a stunning view overlooking the Old Town and Lokrum Island. The beach is composed of pebbles and small stones.
Lokrum Island: Easily accessible by ferry from the Old Town harbor, this nature park has no official beaches but offers ideal swimming spots along the rocky shores. The island's salt lake, the Dead Sea (Mrtvo More), is a shallow and safe alternative for children and non-swimmers.
Šunj Bay (Lopud Island): Reachable via day boat tours from Dubrovnik, Šunj Bay on Lopud Island is one of the most famous sandy beaches in the area. Its shallow, warm waters make it perfect for families. While it takes some time to get there, it's a great getaway for those looking to experience the rare sandy beach experience of the Adriatic.
