Places to Swim in Dalaman
Dalaman, a district of Muğla known for its tranquility and natural beauty, is particularly known for its coves and long beaches at the intersection of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas. Dalaman is a popular destination for vacationers not only for its airport but also for its clean and peaceful seas. Here are the must-see spots in the Dalaman area.
Sarigerme Beach
This is Dalaman's most popular and well-known beach. Its approximately 7-kilometer stretch of golden sand and shallow waters makes it ideal for families with children. Because the beach is run by TİSAN (Tourism and Environment Foundation), it is very clean and tidy. There are facilities nearby, including sunbed and umbrella rentals. It can get slightly wavy on windy days, but it's generally calm and clear.
Iztuzu Beach (Dalyan Border)
While technically located within the Ortaca/Dalyan border, it's relatively close to Dalaman and easily accessible. It's also known as Turtle Beach because it's a nesting ground for the loggerhead sea turtle. This 4.5-kilometer-long natural barrier beach boasts a unique landscape, surrounded by freshwater (the Dalyan Delta) on one side and saltwater (the Mediterranean) on the other. Its natural beauty has been preserved, and the beach is closed after sunset for the turtles' safety.
Kayacık Beach and Pier
Closer to Dalaman's center, this area is generally less crowded and favored by locals. The rocky, pebbly terrain is quite clear and clean, and the sea is quite clean. Small piers and businesses here offer daily opportunities for relaxation and swimming. It's a good option for those seeking tranquility.
Vaccine Bay
It's one of Dalaman's natural and hidden gems. While access is a bit challenging (usually via a gravel road), the bay's cleanliness and tranquility are worth the effort. With no major tourist attractions in the area, it offers a completely natural setting. The water often deepens suddenly and is rich in underwater life, making it a popular spot for snorkelers.
Dalaman Bays (Boat Tours)
Dalaman's true marine treasures lie hidden in the numerous bays, large and small, located between Fethiye and Göcek. Boat tours from the region's busy ports (usually departing from Göcek) take you to destinations only accessible by sea, such as Sarsala Bay, Cleopatra's Bath, and Bedri Rahmi Bay. The seawater in these bays can be slightly temperate due to the thermal waters, and the surrounding area is covered with pine forests.
Dalaman is a holiday destination that appeals to every seaside taste, with its long, sandy beaches and hidden rocky coves.
